MADISON (WKOW) -- A Wisconsin native and UW-Madison grad has returned to Madison to star in Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast.”

The Broadway musical is now playing at the Overture Center for the Arts.

Playing the role of Gaston is Christiaan Smith-Kotlarek, a 2004 graduate of Neenah High School whose passion for music and theatre is now being played out before audiences nationwide.

Wake Up Wisconsin anchors Dani Maxwell and Brandon Taylor spent time with Smith-Kotlarek recently to talk about his return to Madison.

Smith-Kotlarek plays the arrogant antagonist Gaston, the guy who thinks he can have it all, including Beauty herself.  The 29-year-old baritone studied vocal performance as an undergraduate at UW-Madison, learning from the likes of faculty Paul Rowe, Mimmi Fuller and Richard Davis.

Before the first show Smith- Kotlarek and a few of the other actors demonstrated the famous mug click scene and tried to teach Dani and Brandon a few moves.

Watch Wake Up Wisconsin Friday morning to see how they did.

"Disney's Beauty and the Beast" at the Overture Center.runs through Sunday.
