Packers fire two assistant coaches

Posted: Updated:

Following a disappointing performance this season from the offensive, the Packers have parted ways with two offensive assistant coaches. Running backs coach Sam Gash and tight ends coach Jerry Fontenot were dismissed Tuesday.

Fontenot joined the Packers as a coaching intern in 2006. He worked his way up through the ranks. Fontenot served as the assistant offensive line coach and running backs coach before taking over the tight ends in 2012. Mike McCarthy issued a statement thanking Fontenot for his service.

"It's been a pleasure to work with Jerry the past 10 seasons. He has given a lot to this organization and has been a big part of our success. We wish Jerry, Stephanie and their family all the best moving forward."

Gash has been the running backs coach for the Packers the past two seasons. This past season, the Packers ranked No. 12 in the NFL in rushing yards per game.
