Nigel Hayes clutch in crunch time

MADISON (WKOW) -- One of the biggest reasons for Wisconsin's four-game winning streak is the clutch play of junior Nigel Hayes. In the final minutes, and into overtime against Indiana and Illinois, Hayes went a perfect 17 for 17 from the free throw line. According to UW, in the final five minutes of games this season Hayes is 87% (48-55) from the foul line.

"That's the moment you live for as a kid playing basketball. When you're in the backyard, whether it's a free throw or a jumpshot, this, that or the other, you always want the big moment and you have to make sure you seize it when you get the opportunity," Hayes said.

"Pressure either breaks pipes or makes diamonds and I just try to be a diamond."

"I'm in his ear when he's shooting those. Right when he's walking to the line, talking about how big time players are going to make these. So far he's always came up with it, so he's been a big time player for us down the stretch," freshman forward Ethan Happ said.
