Badgers drop seventh straight, fall 87-61 to Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio (Per UW Athletics) – It was a game of runs for No. 7 Ohio State as the Wisconsin women’s basketball team dropped an 87-61 road game to the Buckeyes on Thursday night. The Badgers drop their seventh straight to fall to 6-15 on the season, including 2-9 in Big Ten Conference play.

Nicole Bauman led UW with 19 points as the senior guard shot 50 percent from the field (7-of-14), including 4-of-8 from 3-point range. Whyte and Michala Johnson each added 10 points for Wisconsin.

Ohio State had five players in double figures behind a game-high 21 points for Ameryst Alston. Kelsey Mitchell added 16 points, nearly 10 points below her season average, while Shayla Cooper also added 16 points and picked up a double-double with 10 rebounds.

The Buckeyes shot 47.1 percent (33-of-70) from the field, including 30 percent (9-of-30) from 3-point range. Wisconsin shot 38.5 percent (20-of-52) from the field, including an impressive 47.1 percent (8-of-17) from behind the arc. UW got to the free-throw line 17 times, making 13 for 76. 5 percent while OSU hit 75 percent (12-of-16).

The Badgers were outrebounded 40-32, led by seven boards from Johnson.

Wisconsin turned the ball over a Big Ten-season high 17 times, with the Buckeyes scoring 21 points off UW giveaways. OSU outscored the Badgers 36-22 in the paint and 25-14 off the bench.

UW returns to action on Monday when it hosts Purdue at 6 p.m. in the Kohl Center. The game airs live on the Big Ten Network.
