MADISON (WKOW) -- Madison Police have released the name of the officer involved in Wednesday's shooting incident with a homicide suspect near East Town Mall in Madison.

Police say patrol officer Michele Walker, who works in the department's East District, has been a Madison police officer since 2001. Walker is on administrative leave pending the outcome of an investigation into the shooting.

Police have said shots were fired when the officer went to check on a shopper's tip that homicide suspect Christopher O'Kroley was seen near East Towne.

O'Kroley is accused in the shooting death of Caroline Nosal Tuesday night in the parking lot of Metro Market on Cottage Grove in Madison.

After the gunfire, O'Kroley was found in a nearby dumpster and arrested.
