UPDATE: Ball charged with battering woman, released on signature bond

Posted: Updated:

MADISON (WKOW) -- Montee Ball was charged Monday with misdemeanor battery and disorderly conduct for separate incidents involving a woman who identified herself to police as Ball's girlfriend. The former Badger running back was released on signature bond

As 27 News previously reported, Ball was involved in an incident last Friday morning at the Hampton Inn and Suites in downtown Madison.

A criminal complaint filed by police and released today indicates police responded to a call from a woman who said her boyfriend, Montee Ball, attacked her. She claims the two argued and he threw her across the room. Police at the scene noted a large cut on her leg that doctors later explained would need as many as 10 stitches, as well as a lump on the back of her head where she was complaining of pain.

Police told 27 News Ball was cooperative and the complaint says he admitted to officers they had a physical altercation. However, he says he "pushed her away" during an argument.

While the alleged victim was being treated in a hospital, a police officer noticed a bruise on her lip. She told police Ball had struck her with the back of his hand as the two were driving near East Towne Mall on February 1. That incident is the one for which Ball is charged with battery, where the disorderly conduct charge is associated with the incident at the Hampton.

MADISON (WKOW) -- Former Badger star and NFL player Montee Ball is scheduled to appear in Dane County court Monday, after an arrest for substantial battery.

Madison Police officials say Ball's girlfriend told investigators Ball threw her into  a table in a downtown hotel Friday, cutting her leg badly enough to require stitches.

At the time Ball ended his collegiate career as a running back for Wisconsin, he held the NCAA record for most rushing touchdowns.

Ball played for the Denver Broncos in the 2014 Super Bowl,  but was released by the team this year.  Ball was also released from the New England Patriots days before authorities say he attacked the woman.
