Temprano family helping to build swim dynasty at Madison Memorial

Posted: Updated:

The Madison Memorial boys swim and dive team has built a dynasty in recent years. Since 2001, the Spartans haven't finished worse than second in the state. They've captured the last five titles. All five of those championship teams has involved the Temprano name.

"It's been a very valuable family for us," head coach Paul Eckerle admits.

Jeremy Temprano helped win three titles between 2011-2013. His younger brother, Justin, immediately followed. He has helped Madison Memorial clinch the past two championships.

"When I was up in the stands watching it, I was always so envious of how awesome that atmosphere was. I wanted to be down there swimming," Justin says of the state championship atmosphere.

He has certainly added to that atmosphere the past two seasons. Justin will be swimming at Wisconsin next year. Until then, his coach says Justin has been impressing at the high school level.

"He's definitely in the top handful of the people I've coached, top two or three. He can take it to a level that most people can't. It's pretty impressive to watch sometimes."

Before he hangs it up at Madison Memorial, Justin has a couple of goals to accomplish.

"I want to win as many events as I can. I want to help this team win six in a row. That's a super special thing."

Oh, and he wouldn't mind getting some bragging rights on his big brother.

"He's got our school record in the I.M. So, that's one of my goals is to try and break that. I think it's very possible. What would I say to him? I got you."
