MADISON (WKOW) -- After spending big bucks on Valentine's Day flowers, you want them to last for your loved one.
Melinda Myers of Melinda's Garden Moments made a visit to our WKOW studios during Wake Up Wisconsin Weekend to talk about how to get the most life out of your Valentine's bouquet. Melinda said you should make sure that your bouquet is wrapped securely by the florist, maybe even wrapped twice. When you get the flowers home, put them in a clean vase with water and the plant food many florists provide. Remove the leaves from the lower portion of the stems and cut the stems on an angle at the bottom.
Melinda also shared how to start growing a garden plant while the weather is still cold. You can find out how to do that by clicking on the video version of this story.
To meet Melinda in person, you can head to the Garden Expo at the Alliant Energy Center this weekend. She'll have a presentation Saturday morning at 9:15 a.m. and Sunday morning at 12:45 p.m.
