Baldwin scoring big for Madison West

The Madison West boys hockey team advanced to the second round of the WIAA tournament. Drake Baldwin was a big reason why. The freshman netted a hat trick against DeForest Area Co-op in the opening game. That continued a string of high-scoring games for Baldwin.

"I've been able to find the net a lot, and my linemates have been passing me the puck and finding me to get me these chances. We want to go to state like every other team, and the best time to be hot is in the playoffs."

Baldwin has definitely been heating up lately. He has scored nine total goals in the previous three games. For the season, he has 31 goals and 11 assists. Madison West head coach Bret Farley says his young star is just scratching the surface of his potential.

"I don't even think he knows how good he is yet. I mean, he's never played against people older than him before. He's always played in his age group and now he's a freshman playing against seniors and, at first, I think it was a little intimidating to him."

Baldwin will have another chance to find the net when Madison West takes on Edgewood on Thursday at 7 p.m. at LaBahn Arena.
