Stoughton wrestling gunning for state championship

STOUGHTON (WKOW) -

The Stoughton wrestlers are a team on a mission this weekend. The Vikings enter the WIAA team wrestling state tournament thinking championship after finishing second in the state a year ago.

"I want the opportunity to be in the state finals," says co-head coach Bob Empey. "And whoever we get we want that opportunity to be there and to have, you know, earned that title. I think that's every program's dream, every coach's dream, and every student-athlete's dream to be there."

Stoughton has a long history of success. They won seven state championships prior to the development of the current team format. Recently, the Vikings have fared well. They have made three straight state appearances. They believe that experience will bode well.

"We have no doubts in our minds that we're gonna be in the finals. Overall I just think we're just real ready and we have no doubts in our mind that we won't be there," says senior Collin Kraus.

Stoughton faces Kenosha Bradford/Reuther in the Division 1 quarterfinals on Friday at 5:30 p.m. at the UW Field House.
