Edgewood's season comes to an end in state semifinal with heartbreaking finish
GREEN BAY (WKOW) -- Making their first state tournament appearance in school history, Madison Edgewood came up one-point short. The Crusaders fell 50-49 to Hayward on Thursday afternoon in the Division III state semifinal. Down 49-48, Hayward's Madelyn Neff drew a foul and sank both free throws to give her team the lead. Edgewood's half court heave fell short as time expired, ending the Crusaders' season with a 20-7 record. After Hayward scored the first basket of the game, Edgewood led the entire way, until Neff's final free throw. Estella Moschkau led Edgewood with 20 points and 6 blocks.
"When they were wide open they hit their shots so credits to them, but it's just a hard way to lose I guess because we were up a lot of the game and up by 12 with like 30 seconds left in the half," Moschkau said.
The Crusaders lose just one senior from the 2015-16 team.
