Badgers arrive in St. Louis ahead of NCAA Tournament opener

Posted: Updated:

ST. LOUIS (WKOW) -- The Badgers touched down in St. Louis late Wednesday night, two days ahead of their first round tip-off with Pittsburgh.

According to NCAA rules, a team must ride a bus to the host site if it is less than 350 miles away from home. Madison is 359 miles away from the Gateway to the West, so the Badgers were able to hop a flight instead.

For most of new head coach Greg Gard's team, the experience is completely new. Besides their lone senior Jordan Smith, juniors Nigel Hayes, Bronson Koenig, Vitto Brown, and Zak Showalter, and a few redshirt sophomores, this young squad might be wide-eyed when it comes to game time.

The 7th-seeded Badgers will host practice tomorrow afternoon before their 5:50 p.m. (CT) game with 10th-seeded Pittsburgh.
