Badgers prepare to face #2 Xavier with trip to Sweet 16 on the line

ST. LOUIS (WKOW) -- The Badgers remained in St. Louis Saturday, a day after beating Pittsburgh 47-43 in their first game of the NCAA Tournament. Wisconsin held a closed practice at the Scottrade Center Saturday afternoon, as it prepares to face 2-seed Xavier on Sunday night at 7:45 pm. The Badgers enter the game as a 4.5 point underdog with a trip to the Sweet 16 on the line.

Both Wisconsin and Xavier have made the Sweet Sixteen five times in the last eight seasons, two of only nine programs nationally to do so. Xavier boasts two powerful big men down low in Jalen Reynolds and James Farr, who both scored in double-figures against Weber State in their opening round NCAA Tournament game.

Wisconsin is still alive in the tournament because of its grit against Pittsburgh, when its offense wasn't hitting. The Badgers are expecting a similar hard-nosed type game against Xavier.

"It will be a similar game to Pittsburgh, a grind-it-out, almost football slug-fest, but we've been groomed for that, we play in the Big Ten so we'll be alright," Badgers forward Nigel Hayes said.
