Dane County search warrant executed in Stevens Point attempted murder investigation

Posted: Updated:

MARSHALL (WKOW) --- A Dane County man is still on the run after a shooting in Stevens Point on Thursday.

Stevens Point Police say they executed a search warrant in the Village of Marshall Saturday to collect evidence related to this incident.  The suspect being sought is 30-year-old convicted felon Kyle C. Engen.

A woman at Engen's listed home at the Evergreen Village mobile home park in Marshall tells 27 News she's heard nothing from Engen since the shooting, and declines comment on whether Engen's family members have been in touch with him.

Neighbor Karen Baumann says it is unsettling to learn the significant police presence around Engen's mobile home was due to the search for an armed, attempted murder suspect, but says regular law enforcement patrols since the Stevens Point shooting are reassuring.

"We feel pretty safe out here,"  Baumann says.

Stevens Point Police officials also say they learned there was a second shooting victim.  A 20-year-old man who was with a 21-year old victim was also hit with a bullet and suffered non-life threatening injuries.  Officials say he left the scene and sought medical attention on his own in the Racine area.  Police say this second victim is not currently a student at UW-Stevens Point and he is cooperating with police.

Officials say the 21-year-old shooting victim, Deonta Lezine remains in critical condition.  Online directory information also does not show Lezine as a current UW-Stevens Point student.

Last year, Engen was sentenced to three years probation by a Dane County judge for felony drug dealing.  Engen used a gun to threaten a Stoughton man who had received a shipment of marijuana from California, and then took the marijuana.  Detectives subsequently found marijuana, guns, and several thousand dollars in cash at the Marshall mobile home Engen shared at the time with a girlfriend, who was also criminally charged.

Authorities ask anyone with information related to last week's shooting  or to Engen, please call 715-346-1518.

MARSHFIELD  (WKOW) -- Several different law agencies are looking statewide for a suspect in an attempted murder in Stevens Point on St. Patrick's Day.

A Dane County news release, on behalf of Stevens Point Police, says Kyle C. Engen, 30, has many ties throughout Wisconsin and is believed to be carrying a handgun.  He is from Dane County.  Officials believe Engen is a danger to the public as well as police, and they urge officers to use caution.

The Stevens Point City Times reports police think Engen was involved in a shooting that may have been a drug deal gone bad.  The victim was in critical condition afterward.

Engen is about six feet tall and weighs around 155 pounds. He has blonde hair and brown eyes and a  "420" tattoo on his right arm.  He's believed to be driving a maroon or purple Lexus SUV.

If you have any information about Engen or see him, you're urged to call Stevens Point Police Department Det. John Lawrynk 715-498-0454 or Det. Kent Lepak 715-498-0012.
