Hayes plans to keep shooting for Badgers

Posted: Updated:
MADISON (WKOW) -

The Badgers have advanced to the Sweet Sixteen despite some offensive struggles from their leading scorer. Nigel Hayes is 5-for-27 from the field in the NCAA Tournament and 0-for-11 from beyond the arc.

"It's probably always something subconsciously mental, but I've been telling myself I'm fine. As you see, I still shoot the ball. So, it's not like I'm not shooting the ball. So, I'm not in my own head. It's just something that maybe I needed more reps. I've gotten my reps in yesterday and today. Hopefully, Friday it will go in."

Hayes has attacked his struggles head on. He stayed late after practice on Tuesday to get in some extra shots. He says he put in two hours of shooting and made 500 shots on Monday. He'll find out soon enough if that extra work will pay off. The Badgers are slated to face Notre Dame on Friday at 6:27 p.m. CT in Philadelphia.
