MADISON (WKOW) -- We are learning more about the 53-year-old Monona woman killed Friday morning in a limousine crash.

Illinois State Police say Terri Schmidt and five other passengers from the Madison area were heading to O'Hare Airport to catch a flight to Mexico, when their limo crashed on Eastbound I-90.

Her family says it's been hard dealing with the aftermath of the freak accident.

"It's just surreal at this point," Judi Schmidt-Arnold said about her daughter-in-law's death.  "Terri.. all she had to do was walk in a room...always with a smile on her face," she said.

Schmidt-Arnold says Terri loved the idea a couples spring break trip.

"They were very best friends, they were all going to rent a beautiful villa in Mexico," Schmidt-Arnold said.  But the dream vacation ended in twisted-metal, their rented O'Hare bound limo hit a concrete barrier and flipped.

"This unfortunate thing happened, it's devastating," she said.

Terri died shortly after the crash, her Mother-in-Law says there are two other passengers now struggling with significant injuries.

"They have a long road to recovery."

For now, Schmidt-Arnold can't believe Terri is gone, and that it had to happen this way.

"You think the best way to go is in a limo, but I doubt I'll ever get in one again."

Long-time friend Tim Metcafe shared the following remarks about Terri.

"Kevin and Terri build there company from scratch, one of the hardest working couples in Madison, they loved each other, very special bond, always together, they worked all day with each other, then they went home with each other. She was a wonderful hard working women that could get her hands dirty with the best of them. It's just a sad day to see this tragedy happen to such a wonderful couple. What they had between each other was unconditional, pretty special. Very sad news to hear."

The family says the funeral is set for this Saturday at Gunderson Funeral Home on Monona Drive.
