Tsipis expected to be named UW women's bball coach, resigns from GW

MADISON (WKOW) -- The State Journal is reporting that Jonathan Tsipis is expected to be named the next head coach of the Wisconsin women's basketball program. The UW Board of Regents have scheduled a meeting for 5pm Tuesday to discuss the contracts for a new women's basketball coach, along with a coach for the men's hockey program.

Monday evening Tsipis resigned as head coach of the women's basketball program at George Washington University. GW announced the news in a press release:

"Over the last four years, Jonathan has restored the outstanding tradition of GW women's basketball," said Director of Athletics and Recreation Patrick Nero. "We're grateful to him, his staff and the student-athletes he coached for bringing the program back to the top of the Atlantic 10 and into the national picture. As we wish Jonathan luck, we also look forward to the next chapter of excellence at GW."

With Tsipis at the helm, the Colonials achieved a 92-38 (.708) record, back-to-back A-10 championships in 2015 and 2016 and three straight postseason appearances during his four seasons in Foggy Bottom. He was originally hired on April 6, 2012, as the ninth head coach in program history.

A search for GW's next head women's basketball coach will begin immediately.
