Brewers make roster moves days before season opener

Posted: Updated:

MILWAUKEE (AP) -- The Milwaukee Brewers have signed reliever Carlos Torres to a one-year contract.
To make room on the 40-man roster, the Brewers on Saturday transferred outfielder Rymer Liriano from the 15- to the 60-day disabled list. Liriano is recovering from injuries he suffered when he was hit in the face by a pitch.
Torres made eight relief appearances with the Atlanta Braves this spring, pitching nine innings and giving up four earned runs. The 33-year-old right-hander exercised an opt-out in his minor league contract with the Braves.
Torres went 5-6 with a 4.68 ERA in 59 relief appearances with the New York Mets last season. His best season with the Mets was in 2014 when he went 8-6 with a 3.06 ERA in a career-high 73 relief appearances and one start.

The Brewers played one final game before their season opener on Monday night, taking on their Double-A affiliate the Biloxi Shuckers. Ryan Braun and Domingo Santana both homered in the third inning to lead the Brewers past the Shuckers 7-4 on Saturday.
Milwaukee starter Chase Anderson allowed two runs in five innings. He also struck out four.
Biloxi took a 1-0 lead before Braun and Santana hit solo home runs that put the Brewers ahead for good.
The Brewers open the regular season on Monday at home against San Francisco.
