Badgers, Boilermakers split Saturday doubleheader

Posted: Updated:

MADISON, Wis. (WKOW) -- The Badgers Sam Arnets knocked in three runs off of two doubles to help Wisconsin take a 9-5 victory in game one, but a late 9th-inning rally came up short in game two as Purdue won 5-4.

Game one saw Purdue take an early 1-nil lead, until shortstop Ashley Van Zeeland laid down a bunt that turned into an inside-the-park home run thanks to a bad throw to first.

Sara Novak would notch her fourth home run of the season with a two-run shot, but the two program would be tied up at 3 all by the fourth.

Macy Oswald's RBI single in the bottom of the inning gave them back a lead they would never lose. Arnets would drive in 3 scores off of two doubles in the fourth and the fifth and the Badgers closed out game one 9 to 5.

In game two, Wisconsin got on the board early as Chloe Miller knocked in a run off a single up the middle. From that point on, Purdue would take a commanding 5-1 lead heading into the bottom of the 7th. The Badgers mounted a four run rally before Purdue finally closed the door to salvage the split.
