FRIENDSHIP (WKOW) -- Court documents show a woman killed by a pellet gun in Adams County was six to eight feet away from the gun when it was fired.

A probable cause statement completed by an Adams County sheriff's deputy states Constance Heintz was shot in the chest when her boyfriend, Branden Davis, had been "manipulating the handgun near the trigger." The deputy states he believes Davis was setting the gun down on the kitchen table and that it was unsafely pointed at Heintz.

Davis was arrested but has not been officially charged. The Adams County Clerk of Courts tells 27 News the initial court appearance for Davis is scheduled for May 17. The clerk also says Davis posted the $5000 cash bail set at a Tuesday bail hearing. Conditions of his bail include house arrest and having no contact with the victim's family.

The offense listed on the probable cause statement is homicide by negligent handling of a dangerous weapon.

The statement says deputies were dispatched to a home on 13th Avenue in the Township of Preston at 12:13 a.m. Sunday, where they found Heintz. First responders could not save her life and she was pronounced dead at 1:41 a.m. Davis was arrested at 2:39 a.m.
