(WQOW)- A rescue mission on Dells Pond in Eau Claire is now a recovery mission. 

Just before midnight on Wednesday, crews on scene told News 18 the search for a missing man had gone into recovery mode. A sergeant with the Eau Claire Police Department said two men were in a boat on Dells Pond when it capsized shortly before 10 p.m. Wednesday. One of the men was able to swim to shore and call 911. Emergency crews launched a water search from the boat landing at Mt. Simon.

The Eau Claire Fire Department said crews used sonar underwater. The shoreline was also searched. At last check the boat has not been found. A debris field was discovered underwater but as it grew closer to midnight the fire department said conditions were too dangerous to continue searching. 

Authorities have not shared the identity of the man who swam to shore or his condition. Rescue crews suspect the men were fishing. 
 
The fire department says the recovery mission will continue early Thursday morning.

Eau Claire police have confirmed that a water search is underway in the area near Dells Pond. 

A sergeant with the police department says two men were in a boat Wednesday evening when it capsized. One of the men was able to swim to shore and call 911. A search is underway for the other occupant of the boat.
