UW-Madison police arrest student in connection with graffiti cases

Posted: Updated:

MADISON (WKOW) -- The UW-Madison Police Department says officers arrested a student in connection with at least 11 cases of graffiti on campus.

Police took 21-year-old Denzel McDonald into custody Thursday. He was arrested on 11 criminal counts of graffiti and one count of disorderly conduct for threatening a bystander.

After a six month investigation, police say they determined McDonald was responsible for the rash of graffiti on campus buildings that were signed by "God."

The disorderly conduct charge came from an interaction, in which police say a bystander tried to intervene while McDonald was defacing some property and McDonald told the bystander he would kill them if they called police.

The UW-Madison Police Department says it cost more than $4,000 to clean or repair the graffiti damage in all 11 cases.
