Football career a family tradition for Wisconsin linebacker Chris Orr

Posted: Updated:

Chris Orr burst on to the scene for the Badgers as a true freshman last season. The linebacker from DeSoto, Texas played in 10 games with 46 tackles and two tackles for loss. Yet, expectations for Orr are even higher for his sophomore campaign.

"I'm a very self-motivated player, and also I've got three brothers: one coaching, one in the NFL and one at TCU. So, there's no time to get complacent."

Orr's family has kept him motivated on the football field his entire life. Chris' father, Terry, played for the Washington Redskins as a tight end from 1986-93. One of his older brothers, Zachary, is a linebacker for the Baltimore Ravens. Another older brother, Nick, is a starting safety at TCU. So, whenever Chris is beginning to feel good about his play, his family is there to keep him in check.

"They keep you humble every day. We're on a group text. We're always working hard because we're always thinking about each other like, 'I bet Nick doing this. I bet Zach doing this. I bet Terrance doing this. So, let me do this. Let me do this extra push-up. Or let me go run some hills.' So, it be something like that."

Orr is competing for a starting inside linebacker slot with the Badgers next season. He'll look to make a good impression on his new defensive coordinator in the spring game on April 23 at noon.
