MADISON (WKOW) -- Community members are invited to attend the 6th Annual Canstruction Madison event at West Towne Mall.
Hosted by Middleton Outreach Ministry, the competition calls on teams to end hunger by building structures of canned goods and packaged food. All food is donated to the MOM Food Pantry, serving Madison, Middleton and Cross Plains. This year’s theme is “sCANning the Galaxy” and will feature many space themed structures.
The Canstruction Madison build day was sponsored by individuals, businesses and groups. Audiences will vote for their favorite canned goods structure from Tuesday, April 19th to Sunday, April 24th through Facebook and Instagram, or in-person. The “People’s Choice” prize, as well as various awards, will be distributed at the Award Ceremony on April 24th in the mall Food Court.
Prior to the Awards Ceremony, the structures are judged by design professionals and community leaders. Many awards are given, including youth only categories. The final award is decided by the community, who vote for the People’s Choice Award. Trophies are awarded for use of color, creativity and engineering.
“Canstruction® not only brings friends and colleagues together to give back while team building, but is an opportunity for the community to see how people can come together to benefit those in need. Each can is food for families and another step towards ending hunger,” says Cheri Farha, MOM Distribution Center Manager.
“It is because of the dedication of our sponsors, the team members and those who attend Canstruction® each year, that this event is possible,” says Al Ripp, Executive Director of MOM.
