(WKOW) -- Today is a holiday from a galaxy far, far away. So for all you Star Wars fans out there: May the 4th Be With You.

According to www.starwars.com, one of the first mentions of the date was in 1979 regarding former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. After she won the election, her supporters took out an ad in a newspaper saying, "May the Fourth be with you, Maggie."

Since then, Star Wars fans have celebrated this day by dressing up or watching marathons of the films. No doubt you'll see a lot of people talking about "Star Wars" on Facebook today, May 4. Learn more about Star Wars Day here.
