MADISON, Wis. (WKOW) -- The 9th annual Coaches vs. Cancer Wisconsin Gala always brings in the top basketball coaches in the state, but one of the coaches is about to spread his wings out West.

Rob Jeter was a guest speaker at the Kohl Center for the annual event, smiling with excitement for his future. Jeter was hired three days ago by UNLV to become the men's basketball newest assistant coach.

"It's real exciting, "Jeter said Saturday night. "I'm really blessed to be able to coach. We always say make your vocation your vacation. Get a chance to mentor kids, get a chance to see guys use basketball to better themselves and that's always fun."

Jeter, who played under Bo Ryan during his days at UW-Platteville, was fired from UWM in March after spending 11 seasons as the head coach. He compiled a 185-170 overall record and had one year remaining on his contract.
