(WKOW) -- May is Celiac Awareness Month and many experts agree gluten-intolerance is on the rise in the United States.
Silvana Nardone is the author of several gluten-free cookbooks and mom to Isaiah, who has gluten-intolerance. She shares some tips with Wake Up Wisconsin anchor Dani Maxwell, who was recently diagnosed with Celiac Disease herself.
Celiac Disease is a severe allergy to gluten, the protein found in wheat, barley and rye. Nardone says when Isaiah was first diagnosed as gluten-intolerant 10 years ago, it was hard to find options for him to eat. She created recipes herself.
Now, Nardone says many companies are starting to make gluten-free snacks and products that she incorporates into her meals. She offers some tips to families who are dealing with gluten allergies. Click on the video above to watch the full interview with Silvana Nardone.
