Ex-Madison officer pleads guilty to theft during sting

Posted: Updated:

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- A former Madison police officer has pleaded guilty to stealing nearly $4,000 during a sting operation.
Thirty-one-year-old Andrew Pullum entered a conditional guilty plea Monday. According to the plea agreement, Pullum could withdraw the plea if a federal appeals court reverses a decision by a judge that denied his motion to dismiss the charge.
The Wisconsin State Journal (http://bit.ly/1TAuS2u ) reports a second count -- for possessing 20 firearms as an unlawful user of marijuana and cocaine -- will be dismissed at sentencing Aug. 23.
Police began investigating Pullum after a tip he was planning a robbery with other people. He was arrested Dec. 18, the day after authorities say Pullum took a duffel bag containing $3,950 from the trunk of a car.
Pullum resigned from the police department in January.
