Local student has worldwide success with simple TV mount

WHITEWATER (WKOW) -- A local student is a successful businessman thanks to his hard work now, and in his childhood.

Sam Lukach always wanted to be an inventor of some kind, he just never knew what to make.

Then he got to UW-Whitewater, and in his cramped dorm room, had nowhere to put his TV. He headed to the hardware store, asked if he could borrow their equipment, and spent a few hours making a bracket that made it possible for him to hang the TV anywhere.

For his startup money, he used all the cash he'd been saving since he was a kid. “I cut lawns,” laughed Lukach. I worked over the years to save up and so I took all my money and I said alright, this is it! Might as well!”

His TV mount, HUK, can be found in UW bookstores. But through his website, he's shipped his product all over the world.

“The biggest place that we've had an impact on is Russia,” Lukach said. “It's quite amazing, I’m not familiar with Russia this much but there's a lot of coverage in Russia from Moscow to Saint Petersburg.”

So far, he's sold thousands. And although he won't disclose just how much he's made, Lukach said college tuition isn't a concern anymore.
