MILWAUKEE (WKOW) -- A Dane County law enforcement officer who died in the line of duty was honored in Milwaukee on Wednesday.
Governor Scott Walker, Attorney General Brad Schimel and other dignitaries paid tribute to five officers killed on the job. That includes K-9 Officer Ryan Copeland of the McFarland Police Department.
He died in a car crash while on duty last November. Walker says the day is also about those who continue to serve.
"For those men and women in law enforcement who are doing their job day in and day out, who are doing the job they're trained to do and in doing it well," said Walker. "We need to thank them for their sacrifice and continue to support them in as many ways as possible."
A state memorial for fallen officers will be held at the capitol next Friday.
