UPDATE: Adams Co. man offers statement related to charges of mistreatment of animals

Posted: Updated:

UPDATE (WKOW) -- Bradley Kruse reached out to 27 News with the following statement:

These events took place over a year ago, and I have made every effort I can to never have that happen again. I am happy to say that today each and every one of my animals is well cared for, and loved as if they are my children. In times like this, I think it is important to remind people that bad things can happen to good people.

SAUK COUNTY (WKOW) -- Two people are being charged with 14 counts of felony mistreatment of animals-causing death.

The two, a former couple, lived on a farm in the Town of Westfield and had purchased numerous farm animals.  Those animals began dying for unknown reasons, according to the criminal complaint.

In February 2015, sheriff's deputies found chickens, pigs and rabbits dead throughout the farm.  Bradley Kruse, 27, stated food had not been an issue, as there was more than 50,000 pounds at the farm.  He believes during the cold weather, there were issues of frozen pipes, making it difficult to keep the animals watered.

Both Kruse and his ex-girlfriend, 22-year-old Ashley Grage, face up to $10,000 in fines and up to three and a half years in prison if convicted.  To read the criminal complaint for Kruse, click here.  Grage's criminal complaint can be read here.
