Granato headed back to school at Wisconsin

MADISON (WKOW) -

Tony Granato originally arrived as a student at UW-Madison in the 1980's. That academic journey is about to continue at age 51.

"I'm really excited. The guys got me nicknamed Rodney Dangerfield already after 'Back to School'."

Like Dangerfield, Granato is headed back to school after being hired as the men's head hockey coach for the Badgers. As a requirement of his hiring, the school mandated that Granato finish his bachelor's degree within a year. He needs five classes to graduate.

"I'm ready. I think part of the excitement is coming back and being on campus again, and I get the opportunity to go to school. I get the chance to walk up Bascom Hill with my backpack on and go in to class. I'm nervous because I haven't been in a classroom for a long time, but it's exciting for me."

Granato says he will enroll in classes in the School of Human Ecology this summer.
