UW-La Crosse, UW-Whitewater punch tickets to D3 World Series

SAUGET, Ill. (WKOW) -- UW- La Crosse and UW-Whitewater are heading to the NCAA Division III World Series.

For the 14th-ranked Warhawks, Curtis Morgan and Lake Bachar delivered dominant pitching outings, each tossing complete games to sweep of Rose-Hulman (Ind.) and earn a spot in the NCAA Division III World Series.

In the first game of the doubleheader, Morgan pitched a complete-game five-hitter with eight strikeouts to top the Fightin' Engineers, 11-0.

Bachar started on the mound in game two, pitching a complete-game, giving up six hits and striking out nine in a 5-3 victory that clinched the Central regional title. 

UW-Whitewater (34-15) will make its eighth appearance all time in the College World Series, including its fourth since 2008. They will play at 7:45 p.m. Friday at Fox Cities Stadium in against the winner of the regional in Washington, Pennsylvania.

Head coach John Vodenlich earned his 500th career win in second game. 

UW-La Crosse took the Midwest regional by defeating the St. John's 5-3. It will be the 4th-ranked Eagles second straight appearance in Grand Chute for the World Series. 

The Eagles play next Friday at 1:15 p.m. against the regional winner in Spokane, Washington.
