MIDDLETON (WKOW) -- The WIAA state meet is 11 days away, but before athletes head to La Crosse, they had to run in the regionals. The Middleton boys and girls track and field teams swept the regional held at their high school on Monday night. The Middleton boys 4x800 meter relay team came in with the fastest time in the state and they won finishing in 8:06.76.

Middleton senior Samantha Valentine won the 1600 meter run, finishing in 5:10.06. Valentine entered the meet with the fastest time in the state. Stress fractures shortened her previous two seasons, but as a senior Valentine is healthy and even surprising herself on the track with her success.

"It's really great obviously I've just been working hard trying to take care of myself I guess, listening to my body and making sure I'm staying healthy first and foremost," Valentine.

Next year Valentine will be running at Bates College in Maine.
