Jefferson track and field led to state by dynamic duo

Posted: Updated:
JEFFERSON (WKOW) -

For the last four years, Landon Ellingson and Mikaela Grant have been re-writing the school record books at Jefferson High School. The seniors are now pushing each other to bring home multiple state championships next week in La Crosse at the WIAA Track and Field meet.

Ellingson is the top seed in Division 2 in both the shot put and discus. He's been posting some of the best distances in the state all year in both events. The Stanford recruit has yet to win a state championship, which is driving him to finish his career strong.

"It's been my goal since the first day to win state in both events. I've been hungry ever since last year of winning it because I choked a little bit in disc last year."

Grant has won gold at the state meet before. She's qualified for four events this year: 100 meter hurdles, 300 meter hurdles, long jump and the 4x400 meter relay. She'll be very busy at the state meet. Still, she knows Ellingson will be there to cheer her on. The two record-breakers are also dating.

"He's been my best friend since freshman year. We've always been close. I don't know. I guess we've always been there for each other through all of our events. It's just nice to have somebody there."
