Former Badgers defensive back Troy Vincent on ballot for College Football Hall of Fame

MADISON, Wis. (WKOW) -- Among 75 players and six coaches listed on the Football Bowl Subdivision of the 2017 ballot for induction into the College Football Hall of Fame is former Badgers defensive star Troy Vincent and former UW-Whitewater head coach Forrest Perkins.

Vincent played for the Badgers as a defensive end from 1988 to 1991. His final season, he was named First team All-American and runner-up for the Thorpe Award that year. He was also awarded the Big Ten's Co-Defensive Player of the Year in 1991. 

Following his playing career at UW, Vincent was drafted 7th overall in the 1992 NFL Draft by the Miami Dolphins. His NFL career spanned over 15 seasons with the Dolphins, the Philadelphia Eagles, the Buffalo Bills, and the Washington Redskins. He was a five-time Pro Bowler and was the Walter Peyton Man of the Year award recipient in 2002. 

Perkins was also nominated for the Hoff. He coached the Warhawkss for 29 seasons, from 196 to 1984, compiling a 189-87-7 overall record. Perkins coaches 15 All-Americans and three conference player of the year. During his 29 seasons, he won 11 Wisconsin State University Conference titles.

Perkins retired in 1984. The former Warhawk Stadium was renamed in his honor in 1996. Perkins passed away on December 13, 2014, at the age of 94. 

The 2017 Hoff class will be announced on January 6, 2017, in Tampa, Florida, where the CF National Championship will be played on January 9, 2016, at Raymond James Stadium.
