Verona softball ready for state challenge

Posted: Updated:

For the second time in three years, the Verona softball team is headed to the state tournament. The Wildcats will kick off tournament play at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Goodman Diamond against last year's runner's up, Watertown.

"I told Patty (Jansen) at Watertown in March that we would see her at Goodman," says Verona coach Todd Anderson. "It's coming true for us and for her. They're a very good team, very well-coached. We'll have to match that at state."

The Wildcats carry a 22-6 record in to the state tournament. They are making their 12th appearance in the state tournament but still searching for their first state championship.

"It's really important to realize it's just another game," says senior Nicole Neitzel. "We might be playing at the Badgers' field and state, but, to keep your nerves down, just think of it as another game."
