Verona's Rortvedt gets dream call from Twins

VERONA (WKOW) -

As a sophomore at Verona High School, Ben Rortvedt never thought he would ever even get a Division 1 scholarship to play baseball. Two years later, he landed a scholarship to the University of Arkansas, but he'll likely be turning down that opportunity after the Minnesota Twins drafted him in the second round of the 2016 MLB Draft.

"Great organization. I'm just blessed to be able to be drafted by the Minnesota Twins."

The Wildcats catcher waited out an anxious first night of the draft at his home with his family. He wasn't sure if he'd get the call on day one or day two.

"The whole night I was palms sweating, shaking, nervous but excitement. It was...I'm thankful it's over."

The Twins selected Rortvedt with the 56th overall selection. That pick holds a slot value of $1,141,600. As long as the physicals and final negotiations go as planned, Rortvedt expects to be turning pro in the next couple weeks.

"I talked to my friend today, and he asked me what it was like. I kind of said, 'It's like I don't know what to do with my hands. That kind of feeling.' It just hasn't hit me yet."
