VERONA (WKOW) -- The Verona Area Community Theater is excited to present its latest musical endeavor “Mary Poppins” to the Verona High School Performing Arts Center opening June 17.
“Mary Poppins” the musical is based on the similarly titled children?s book by P.L. Travers and the 1964 Disney film. The musical offers a fusion of the book and the film which will give its audiences the classic story they recognize with some fun new twists.
On Wednesday, several of the cast and crew stopped by Wake Up Wisconsin to talk about the upcoming show.
Taking on direction of the show, Julie Murphy is excited to bring such a classic musical to life onstage in Verona.
“I grew up watching Mary Poppins,” says Murphy. “I loved watching the movie and am so excited to bring it to life in Verona. Although the musical is slightly different than the movie, I know audiences will leave our show smiling and happy, believing that anything can happen if you let it! Over 100 people are collaborating to create this musical in Verona and I can?t wait for the curtain to go up! You just can?t miss Mary Poppins flying with her umbrella!”
Although the actors and actresses get to take their bows at each performance, so many people work on creating theater both pre-production and during the rehearsals and runs of the show.
“Mary Poppins” opens at the Verona Area High School Performing Arts Center on June 17 with additional evening shows on June 18, 23, 24 and 25 at 7:30 p.m. There is also a matinee on Sunday, June 19 at 2:00 p.m. Ticket prices are $15 for adults and $10 for seniors and students.
