MADISON (WKOW ) -- Greg Gard and UW Athletics are providing an assist to Madison Public Library Foundation as it builds excitement for summer reading with its third annual Rock & Read fundraiser on Sunday, June 19, from 3-6 p.m. at Capital Brewery in Middleton.
On Thursday, Francesca Rodriquez, Madison Public Library Foundation Officer stopped by Wake Up Wisconsin to talk about the event.
Rock & Read is an opportunity for the community to celebrate literacy, learning and the city’s nine public libraries. Event proceeds support Madison Public Library’s Summer
Reading Clubs, which have the theme, “Read Like a Badger — On Your Mark, Get Set, Read!” Guests can meet the foundation’s special guest, new Wisconsin Badgers men’s basketball coach Gard, who led his team to the NCAA Sweet 16 last month.
“We’re honored that Greg Gard will spend his Father’s Day with us at Rock & Read, and that UW will continue to help us build enthusiasm for the library’s Summer Reading Clubs,” said Madison Public Library Foundation Executive Director Jenni Collins. “The foundation supports the library’s efforts to keep children and teens excited about books and reading when school’s out, helping kids retain what they’ve learned until it’s time to go back in the fall.”
Local bands Yid Vicious and Sean Michael Dargan will entertain guests. Activities include registration for the Summer Reading Clubs, children’s book giveaways, kids’ crafts by Monroe Street Arts Center, and face painting. Burgers, hot dogs, juice, milk, soda and Capital beer will be available for purchase.
In-Kind Supporter Schoep’s will supply ice cream treats.
