Ivy Martin swimming for a spot on U.S. Olympic team

MADISON (WKOW) -- Since graduating from the University of Wisconsin a year ago, Ivy Martin's full time work has been by the water.
"I've had enough to focus on with just training," Martin said.
She's working for the opportunity of a lifetime.
"There's been a lot of anticipation for this meet."
Next week Martin will make a run at qualifying for U.S. Olympic team, swimming at the Olympic Trials in Omaha, Nebraska. (June 26-July 3)
"I feel really strong right now and confident in the water. I've really improved so much since my time being here and it's exciting. Everyday is a part of the journey."
Martin will swim in the 50 and 100 freestyle, along with the 100 butterfly. Her best chance may be in the 50-free where she's seeded third. To qualify to Team USA, she'll have to place in the top-two.
"I've raced everybody that's at this meet and a lot of them I've beaten at some point in my career, so it gives me confidence so knowing that, it's just like anything can happen."
Martin is one of the most decorated swimmers in the history of Wisconsin. She hold five school records and earned seven Big Ten titles, but Martin is racing for more.
"In swimming there's so much pressure on becoming an Olympian. When you get to be an elite swimmer that's like if you make the Olympics that kind of defines your career. I don't necessarily think that that's the right way to think about it, but I just think it would be really cool to add to the accomplishments that I've already had in my career."
