OMAHA, Neb. (WKOW) -

Future Badgers swimmer Cierra Runge put herself in position to earn a spot on the USA Olympic team by finishing fifth in the 200-meter freestyle at the Olympic Trials. The top four finishers automatically qualify to compete at the Olympics on Team USA's 800-meter freestyle relay. However, the top six normally are selected for the relay team. Runge will receive official word later in the week.

“We’re very proud and excited for Cierra,” Wisconsin head coach Whitney Hite said. “Give all the credit to her and Bob Bowman (who coached Runge this year). Cierra had a very good swim today and I know that she’s thrilled. We’re really excited for her to be a Badger next fall."

Runge will join the Badgers for the fall semester after transferring from the University of California-Berkeley.
