Sharing your Netflix password is now a federal crime
SAN FRANCISCO, CA (ABC) -- If you've ever given out your Netflix or HBO Go password, you could be breaking the law.
Three judges from the United States Court of Appeals have ruled that sharing passwords is a criminal act.
The opinion was rendered during the United States V. Nosal trial, a case where a former-employee of a firm was using the password of another employee who was still working the company to download information for use at his new job.
Despite the ruling, it's probably unlikely that HBO Go and Netflix will go after their customers for being too generous with their passwords.
