Madison homicide suspect pleads guilty to co-worker's killing

Posted: Updated:

MADISON (WKOW) -- Christopher O'Kroley Thursday entered a guilty plea to first degree intentional homicide, in connection to the February shooting of O'Kroley's former grocery store co-worker Caroline Nosal.

Records show O'Kroley also entered a guilty plea to first degree reckless endangerment.  O'Kroley fired gun shots at a Madison Police officer before being captured near East Towne Mall.

O'Kroley's case led Nosal's parents and others to call for reinstatement of Wisconsin's former 48-hour waiting period prior to a handgun purchase.  O'Kroley purchased a hand gun after being fired from the grocery store and killed Nosal outside the store within twenty-four hours of his purchase.

A sexual assault charge against O'Kroley's in a separate case involving a different co-worker was dismissed Thursday, but another charge from that case was read-in into the hearing, and can be considered at sentencing.

Authorities say the 26-year old O'Kroley blamed the 24-year old Nosal for his firing.  Nosal had reported to work superiors O'Kroley was harassing her.

Staff members of the state department of corrections will do an investigation of O'Kroley and submit it to the court, in preparation for O'Kroley's sentencing later this year.
