Badgers women's basketball prepares for trip to Canada

Posted: Updated:

When Jonathan Tsipis took over as the new women's basketball coach at Wisconsin, he couldn't wait for a chance to jump right in. So, Tsipis and the Badgers signed up for a preseason exhibition tour in Canada.

Wisconsin will be on the road from Aug. 6-13. They'll visit Victoria, Vancouver and Whistler in British Columbia. The preseason trip allows the Badgers to get in some summer practices. Tsipis says that time together is invaluable as the Badgers welcome in a new coaching staff and turn over nearly half of the roster from last season.

"After getting to know the returners during the spring, and then when you add six freshmen and a transfer, it can be a little daunting at times. But I think it's good to have them here and then have the opportunity to get them ready to go to Canada. You know we're able to get some things in maybe that you wouldn't get in during a normal summer. And we'll do a lot of different things than we did on the other two tours I was involved in with building the team and  team chemistry and even in the games themselves trying to put us in situations that will help us in the long run."
