'Bachelor' Ben Higgins poised to run for office

DENVER, Co. (WKOW) -- While fans of The Bachelor franchise are waiting eagerly to find out what Bachelorette Jojo's next move is going to be after last episode's cliffhanger, another former star of the show is making headlines.

Season 20 Bachelor, Ben Higgins, has filed to run for office in November.

The Denver Post reports, Higgins is running as a Republican in the Colorado House.  The article says, he has been affiliated with the Republican party since January 4 -- the deadline to qualify for office.

Higgins will be facing the incumbent Democratic Representative Dan Pabon.

Critics say this is a ploy for him to promote his new reality show with his fiancee, Lauren Bushnell, set to premiere this fall.

In a statement, Higgins said, "I am definitely not a politician, but I have a lot to offer through my years in the financial services industry, and more importantly, my work in charitable and humanitarian organizations."

He already has an official campaign website running.
