Hall of Fame game canceled due to field conditions

Posted: Updated:

CANTON, Ohio -- After all the hype and hoopla, there will be no Hall of Fame game.

The news of the cancellation came after players complained of poor field conditions. Multiple sources told ESPN.com that both the Packers and Colts were worried about player safety as crews worked to spray solvent on the area around the midfield logo. One Packers player described it as "like cement" at midfield.

Packers coach Mike McCarthy and Colts coach Chuck Pagano both watched as crews tried to rectify the problem. Baker later met with representatives of both teams.

According to Hall of Fame president/executive director David Baker, teams will remain at the stadium and the plan is to now host a "fan fest".
