UPDATE (WKOW) -- Staff and visitors at Devil's Lake State Park were met with a shock Wednesday morning.

A dozen signs and park benches marred by graffiti.
"That's just so disrespectful," 16-year-old Hannah Cramer from Beaver Dam said.  At her favorite spot, hanging out with friends, Cramer discovered the graffiti.
"This is just such a beautiful area, and they bring their kids here, and it just isn't nice."

Luckily, the graffiti was cleaned up by 11 a.m.  Park employees either used pressurized wash or elbow grease to get most of the disturbing images removed.

But, Devil's Lake Assistant Park Superintendent Jim Carter says some wouldn't graffiti wouldn't budge.

"The most extensive damage was done to our main entry sign, and that sign is gonna be the most costly to repair."  Carter says he anticipates a new sign to cost $8,000, calling this incident the worst damage he's ever seen at the iconic state park.

"It's unfortunate, something our staff don't like doing," Carter said.

The Sauk County Sheriff's Office says the graffiti vandals also targeted several nearby highway signs, but investigators say most of the damage was confined to the state park.

If you have any information on the vandalism, call Sauk County Crimestoppers at 1-888-TIP-SAUK.
