Badgers 2016 volleyball schedule "nasty"

Posted: Updated:

MADISON, Wis. (WKOW) --  The 4th ranked Wisconsin Badgers volleyball team hold their annual Cardinal and White scrimmage Friday night inside the friendly confines of the UW Fieldhouse. But after Friday's in-house match-up, the real fun begins for this stacked team.

The Badgers return 11 players this season, including three-time All-American Lauren Carlini. The only starting position to be filled is at libero, following Taylor Morey's graduation.

Expectations are high for this team, especially after three straight trips to the NCAA sweet 16, but the road back to the post season is littered with potential potholes.
The Badgers face 14 top-25 ranked opponents, starting with 6th ranked Hawai'i on the 26th.

"It's nasty, but that's what we're wanting." said head coach Kelly Sheffield. "Let's test ourselves and let's see what we've got and how great we can be."

The senior setter echoes his response, saying she appreciates the challenging schedule.

"Our preseason, it's outrageous." said Carlini. "We're facing so many top 25 teams but I think that's only going to help us, because Big Ten is such a strong conference. Playing Texas, Hawai'i, and Arizona and all these strong powerhouse teams that's just going to prepare us for that. And whether it's a win or loss we're gonna take away important information from each of those matches, get better at it, and keep building."
