Badgers prepare new duo at inside linebacker

Posted: Updated:
MADISON (WKOW) -

The Badgers developed some depth at inside linebacker last season. That depth is now coming in handy. Returning starter TJ Edwards has missed all of training camp with a foot injury. He is still holding out hope of returning in time for the season opener. In the meantime, the Badgers are preparing a new starting duo of sophomore Chris Orr and junior Jack Cichy.

Orr was one of the surprises of last year's fall camp. The true freshman started six games and notched 46 tackles. Cichy moved from outside to inside linebacker last season. He ended his season with a three-sack performance in the Holiday Bowl. Both inside linebackers have experience. They just don't have much experience playing together.

"You could say me and him playing together because when he was inside, I was hurt. So, we never really were on the field at inside backer at the same time," notes Orr. "So, I guess it's getting that chemistry down. It was kind of almost immediate."

The Badgers will need big contributions from the linebackers against Leonard Fournette and the LSU rushing attack in the season opener on Sept. 3 at Lambeau Field. That game will air on ABC.
